Gadi Eisenkot Criticizes Netanyahu’s Proposal for Digital Financial Backup

The Yashar party leader argues that the prime minister’s contingency plans signal a loss of control over Israel’s economic stability.

Ordinary Israelis face renewed concerns about their savings and the stability of the national economy as political leaders clash over contingency financial plans. Gadi Eisenkot, the chairman of the Yashar party, has launched a sharp campaign against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The former chief of the Israel Defense Forces argues that the prime minister’s recent remarks indicate an admission that the country’s economic foundation has been severely weakened.

The dispute centers on a video Eisenkot released on Saturday on the social media platform X. In the clip, the Yashar leader warns that all citizen wealth is at risk. He utilizes footage from a previous interview with Channel 10 where Netanyahu stated that Israel must prepare for an alternative economic structure. This preparation is a direct response to the growing number of international sanctions facing the state.

A key focus of the campaign material is the prime minister’s openness to digital finance. Netanyahu acknowledged in the interview that blockchain technology would definitely be part of his strategy. He confirmed that he had already requested a specific plan to be developed for this purpose. Eisenkot’s team has since branded this concept Bibicoin, a term used to mock the proposal. They assert that such a system would ultimately destroy the Israeli economy.

The video presents a stark comparison, suggesting that an alternative financial system would mirror the economies of North Korea and Iran. It claims that the outcome would mark the end of Israel’s high-tech sector, healthcare system, and security apparatus. The messaging urges the public to protect their savings from being burned through by these policy shifts. It also questions how global high-tech investors would continue to fund Israeli companies if digital currency became the primary method of transaction.

In a separate post on the same platform, Eisenkot took a more personal tone to address the implications of the prime minister’s strategy. He wrote that Netanyahu is admitting that his current policy path leads to international isolation. This isolation, he argued, brings economic sanctions that will shake both the economy and the market. He described this trajectory as the collapse of national security.

This exchange places the prime minister’s contingency thinking at the heart of the ongoing political debate. Eisenkot is using Netanyahu’s own words from the Channel 10 interview as the primary evidence for his criticism. The campaign aims to highlight the potential risks of relying on new financial mechanisms in response to international pressure.

The situation highlights a growing divide over how to handle the financial challenges posed by sanctions. While the government proposes preparation for an alternative economy, opposition figures warn that these measures may signal deeper structural failures. The debate continues to shape the political landscape as the election season progresses.
